Geena Davis was born to Lucille and William F. Davis and was raised with her brother. From an early age she started playing the piano, flute and organ, and as a teenager played at her Congregationalist church in Wareham. She attended Wareham High School, and for a year was in Sweden as an exchange student. Then she became a student at New England College, but eventually graduated in 1979 with a BA degree in Drama from Boston University. Geena is a member of Mensa, the largest and oldest high IQ society in the world.

Geena`s career began in the 1980s – she first worked as a model, a mannequin in the window for Ann Taylor, and a few months later, signed a contract with the Zoli modeling agency based in New York. While still working as a model, Geena was cast as April in the film “Tootsie” (1982), chosen for the role by Sydney Pollack. After this initial success, she earned a role in the TV series “Buffalo Bill”(1983-84), andin 1984 she portrayed Karen Nicholson in the TV series “Family Ties”, until 1986. In 1985, Geena was featured as the lead in the TV series “Sara”, and in the following year was selected for the role of Veronica Quaife in the film “The Fly”, with Jeff Goldblum and John Getz in lead roles. Her net worth was building steadily.

1988 was a quite successful year for Geena, as she was in the cast for such films as “Beetlejuice” with Alec Baldwin and Michael Keaton, and “Earth Girls Are Easy” alongside Jim Carrey and Julie Brown, which increased her net worth to a large degree. Furthermore, the same year, Geena appeared in the film “The Accidental Tourist”.

In the 1990s, Geena`s career reached a whole new level, which enabled her to secure roles in such productions as “Thelma & Louise” (1991), in which she was Thelma, with Louise played by her friend Susan Sarandon; “A League Of Their Own” (1992) with Tom Hanks and Lori Petty; then in the film “The Long Kiss Goodnight” (1996), with Samuel L. Jackson and Yvonne Zima. She subsequently lent her voice to Mrs. Little in the animated film “Stuart Little” (1999), a role she reprised in the sequel “Stuart Little 2” in 2002.

In 2000, Geena became a star of her own sitcom “The Geena Davis Show”, which aired until 2002, further increasing her net worth. In 2005, she earned the role of President Mackenzie Allen in the popular TV series “Commander in Chief” (2005-2006), and three years later portrayed Gloria Conway in the film “Accidents Happen” (2009), which also added to her net worth.

To speak further of her accomplishments, Geena appeared in the TV series “Grey`s Anatomy” from 2014 until 2015 as Dr. Nicole Herman, and in 2014 she voiced Yoriko Sasaki, a character in the animated film “When Marnie Was Three”.

Most recently, Geena was featured in the film “Marjorie Prime” (2016), with actors Jon Hamm and Tim Robbins, and the film “The Exorcist”, which will be released sometime in 2016.

Thanks to her successful career, Geena has received numerous prestigious rewards, including the Oscar for the Best Supporting Actress, for her work on “The Accidental Tourist”, Golden Globe award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series for her work on “Commander In Chief”, and many others.

1[About Thelma & Louise (1991) being considered a male-bashing movie] Most guys don't relate to the truck driver or the rapist, and if they do, their problems are bigger than this movie.
2[talking about the shows her children watch] As I watched kids' programs with them, I became concerned about gender balance and stereotypes. Boys take up much more space on TV than in real life.
3I have an elbow that bends the wrong way, and I'd do things like stand in an elevator and the doors would close, and I'd pretend that my arm had got caught in it, and then I'd scream, "Ow, ow, put it back!"
